Who we are
The Department of Physics was established in 2012 after a long historical evolution. It supports and coordinates research activities in most areas of Physics, such as theoretical physics, condensed matter physics and optics, nuclear and partilce physics, astrophysics, applied and biomedical physics, education and history of physics. The Physics Department has fruitful collaborations with other institutes, such as other Departments or Research Centres, as well as with national and international research institutions, especially the INFN, Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, whose branch in Pavia is hosted within the Department.
The Department of Physics organizes and manages the undergraduate courses for the Bachelor's Degree in Physics and for the Master's Degree in Physical Sciences, as well as the PhD School in Physics. It takes part in the teaching activities of other schools and departments. The Department is involved in the educational activities of the IUSS - University Institute for Advanced Studies and it manages the PhD School in Physics.
