The activities of the ICARUS/DUNE group focus on Liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber (LAr-TPC) detectors for neutrino physics. The group participates in the ICARUS-T600 experiment, a LAr-TPC designed to search for neutrino oscillations using the BNB beam at Fermilab. The detector was installed in 2020 and has been taking data since then.
The group is also involved in DUNE, a precision experiment on neutrino oscillations and other rare events, scheduled to begin in 2030. DUNE will include four 10-kton LAr-TPC detectors, installed 1,300 km away from the neutrino beam produced at Fermilab.
The group has expertise in all aspects of ICARUS: wire chambers, cryogenics, the photomultiplier tube system for scintillation light detection, and data analysis. It also collaborates in the construction of photodetectors for the DUNE experiment and of one of the Near Detectors for neutrino beam monitoring.
